We recently took a trip to Oklahoma City and had an absolute blast! It truly lives up to its title as the Modern Frontier with its mix of distinct districts, amazing restaurants, and endless fun activities. Whether you’re traveling solo or with your family, OKC offers something for everyone. Here’s a recap of where we stayed, what we did, and where we ate!
Where to Stay: The Ellison Hotel
We stayed at The Ellison, and let me tell you – it’s a gem! This stylish and comfortable boutique hotel is located near downtown OKC and the Arts District, giving you easy access to the city’s best attractions. The design is modern yet cozy, and the location couldn’t be better for exploring all that Oklahoma City has to offer. Whether you’re relaxing after a day of adventures or just admiring the views, you’ll love your stay here.
What to Do: Fun Activities in OKC
Hang Out in Bricktown & Visit Brickopolis
Our first stop was the Bricktown District, and one of the most fun places to visit there is Brickopolis. It’s an entertainment center with something for everyone, from arcade games and mini-golf to a bungee trampoline and climbing wall. If you’re looking for family-friendly fun, this is the place to be! It’s a perfect way to spend a few hours and keep the whole crew entertained.

Ride the Bricktown Water Taxi
While in Bricktown, we couldn’t miss the Bricktown Water Taxi. It’s inspired by the famous Riverwalk in San Antonio, and it’s a fantastic way to explore the district. The 45-minute tour gives you a unique perspective on Bricktown while also offering some cool history about the state of Oklahoma. It’s both educational and fun, making it a great experience for families.

The Oklahoma City Zoo
Animal lovers, this one’s for you! The OKC Zoo is a must-visit with its diverse collection of animals. From giraffes and grizzly bears to lemurs and flamingos, there’s so much to see. We especially loved feeding the giraffes! The zoo is perfect for families and a great way to spend the day connecting with wildlife.

Ride the Ferris Wheel in Wheeler District
Another unique OKC stop is the Ferris Wheel in the Wheeler District. It’s such a fun experience, and the views are incredible! While you’re there, make sure to take a photo in front of the iconic OKC sign. Bring a soccer ball or frisbee for some extra fun in the open space nearby, and don’t forget to grab a snack from the snack shop. The Ferris wheel is a highlight of the area, and we loved the relaxing ride.

Visit the Science Museum
If you’re traveling with kids, the Science Museum Oklahoma should be at the top of your list. It’s one of the coolest museums I’ve ever taken my kids to, and they were obsessed! The museum is hands-on and interactive, but the real highlight is the planetarium. This planetarium is the only one of its kind in North America, offering an unforgettable 45-minute show about the planets. Be sure to get in line 30-40 minutes before the show starts, as it’s a popular attraction & there’s no timed ticket entry.

Relax at Full Circle Bookstore
Full Circle Bookstore is a local hangout spot, is the largest independent bookstore in Oklahoma with more than 60,000 new titles in stock & with every genre imaginable, & has been a community staple for over 30 years. With its warm paneled shelves, comfy reading nooks, wide selection of books, a coffee shop, library ladders upon library ladders, it’s the perfect spot to get lost in a good story. Whether you’re looking for the latest best seller or a rare find, Full Circle offers a homey atmosphere that keeps readers & book lovers coming back.

Where to Eat: Oklahoma City’s Best Restaurants
Let’s talk about the food because OKC’s restaurant scene is incredible! We didn’t have a single bad meal. Here are six restaurants that you absolutely need to try:
- The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen: Delicious pizzas in a trendy setting. We made a reservation for our visit!
- Harvey Bakery & Kitchen: Their Andy’s steak sandwich is out of this world, and the croissants are to die for.
- Sunnyside Diner: A cozy spot perfect for breakfast or brunch.
- Hunny Bunny Biscuit Co: The best biscuits you’ll ever have!
- Deep Deuce Grill: Casual dining with great food in a cool, laid-back atmosphere.
Every meal we had was fantastic, but if you have to choose just one place to try, go for the Andy’s steak sandwich at Harvey Bakery & Kitchen – it’s seriously next level.
We had an unforgettable time in Oklahoma City and can’t wait to go back! From unique activities to amazing food, there’s so much to explore in this vibrant city. Whether you’re traveling with kids or making it a couples’ weekend, OKC offers the perfect mix of fun and relaxation.
