
If you’re looking for a fun and easy weekend trip from Northwest Arkansas, Oklahoma City (OKC) is a perfect option! Just a 3-hour drive from NWA, OKC is full of adventure, family-friendly activities, and incredible food. Known as the Modern Frontier, this city offers a fantastic mix of culture, entertainment, and history. Here’s a guide to our top 5 things to do in OKC that made our trip memorable.
1. Ride the Bricktown Water Taxi

The Bricktown Water Taxi is one of the coolest ways to experience the city! Inspired by San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk, this 45-minute tour takes you through the vibrant Bricktown District while sharing interesting bits of Oklahoma City and state history. It’s a unique and relaxing way to see the sights, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local looking for a new perspective.
Hours: Sunday to Saturday, 10 AM-9 PM
Cost: $4-13 per person
Pro-Tip: Arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled ride to check in smoothly.
2. Visit the Oklahoma City Zoo

If you’re an animal lover, the OKC Zoo is a must-see. We had so much fun exploring all the different exhibits! From giraffes and grizzly bears to flamingos, lemurs, and reptiles, there’s something for everyone. Feeding the giraffes was a special highlight for the kids—and even us adults!
Hours: Sunday to Saturday, 9 AM-5 PM
Cost: $13-16 per person
Pro-Tip: For a deeper dive into the zoo’s attractions, consider taking the driving tour to learn more about the animals and their habitats.
3. Explore the Wheeler District & Ride the Ferris Wheel

For some classic fun, head to the Wheeler District and ride the iconic Ferris Wheel! Not only do you get fantastic views of the city, but it’s also a great spot for family fun. Be sure to take a photo in front of the large OKC sign! And while you’re there, bring a soccer ball or frisbee for some outdoor play in the nearby fields.
Hours: Tuesday-Thursday 4-9 PM, Friday 1-10 PM, Saturday 8 AM-10 PM, Sunday 12-9 PM
Cost: Free to $6 per person
Pro-Tip: After you’ve had your fun, head over to Taco Nation for dinner and enjoy the nearby playground while you eat.

4. Science Museum Oklahoma

Science Museum Oklahoma was one of the coolest stops on our trip! This hands-on museum has something for everyone, and the planetarium is a must-see. It’s the only one of its kind in North America, offering a fascinating 45-minute show on the planets. The kids absolutely loved it, and so did we!
Hours: Monday-Friday 9 AM-5 PM, Saturday 9 AM-6 PM, Sunday 11 AM-6 PM
Cost: $17.95-$22.95 per person
Pro-Tip: The lines for the planetarium can get long, so plan to arrive 30-40 minutes before the showtime to ensure a good seat.
5. Must-Try OKC Restaurants

What’s a trip without delicious food? Oklahoma City didn’t disappoint when it came to dining. We found some incredible spots you won’t want to miss. Here are six must-visit restaurants:
- The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen: Order the Greek appetizer!
- Harvey Bakery & Kitchen: Their croissants are amazing, our favorite was the raspberry & the Andy’s steak sandwich will change your life!
- Sunnyside Diner: I loved the cinnamon roll!
- Hunny Bunny Biscuit Co: If you love biscuits, this is your place. The lattes are good too!
- Deep Deuce Grill: Great burgers & cheese dip!
