That Year We Went Tech Free, Part 2

Health & Wellness· Motherhood

On Monday, I wrote my part 1 story about how our family went tech free for a year when my kids were 6 years, 3 years & 5 months. So where are we today in 2019 with technology? My kids are now 9, 6 & 3 and are allowed different amounts & types of technology based on what is appropriate…

Part 1: That Year We Went Tech Free

Health & Wellness· Motherhood

Ok, not completely tech free. But definitely tech limited! I have always been attracted to pulling a Chip & Joanna & getting rid of all the tv. But in all transparency, Todd & I are as technology dependent as everyone else. We each have an iPhone, Todd has an iPad, I have an apple watch, we have every gaming system…

Food & Fitness Will Set You Free

Fitness· Food· Health & Wellness

Two years ago, I had a very unbalanced view point on fitness & food. I always felt like eating a certain way & working out 5 days a week was restricting. It was a task I had to do every day, I was telling myself no to certain foods that aren’t I entitled to eat if I want??? Life is…

Who Can Be A Hiker???

Hiking With Kids

Short answer: ANYONE & EVERYONE. Yesterday, in a hiking Facebook group I belong to there was a person who wrote a post basically telling parents we are failures if our kids are being carried on the trail & not pushing for more mileage. And while I do believe my kids are capable of so much more than I ever thought…

How To Start Hiking: JUST GO!

Hiking With Kids· Tips

The kids were going stir crazy, I wanted to work out, I was sick of being in the house & so I decided on a whim to take the kids hiking. I was nervous, a woman alone in the woods in unfamiliar territory with 3 kids & a dog??? To hiking pros & experts, it might seem like no big…

Arkansas decided to dump sleet on us for 2 days & Arkansas decided to dump sleet on us for 2 days & we finally got out of the house yesterday evening. We weren’t at the park for very long, just long enough to test out the slide. ❄️🥶🧊 I went out this AM & the main roads have been plowed-ish. The side streets are still mostly covered, can’t see any of the street (at least where I was driving.)

Felt good to get out of the house though, not so ready to get back to our insane schedule.😬🫣 The slow days have been good & very productive home days for us!

Ok, fellow Arkansans, what have y’all been up to the last couple of days?? And if you’re not in Arkansas, what’s the weather like where you are???
Can’t think of any. 😅 I’ve got a ton of hig Can’t think of any. 😅 I’ve got a ton of highlights with my favorite places to visit on the Buffalo River. Float season is coming up— are you ready?!?! Or, send me a DM with your questions & I’ll see how I can help. 🛶

We set up hammocks, our swing, & pipe dreamed about plans we want to become reality this year. Since we’ve had sick kids, we opted for quiet time in nature instead of a first day hike & it was perfect.☀️🌲🏡

2020 & 2021 were some of the hardest years I’ve ever experienced, I’d never want a do over. If you are sitting in that season about the end of 2022, I pray you have some peace & happiness this upcoming year.

As far as social media goes, I have thoroughly enjoyed the 2022 social media year after taking off most of 2021 & 1/2 of 2022. I came back more resolved to share who I am, regardless of what others think, & it has truly led me to some amazing people over here. I hope 2023 brings the same happiness & fun on this crazy app.

I have loved getting to know you! Thanks for inspiring new adventures & for giving me a window into your world!

Happy New Year! 🥳🥳🥳
This is the recipe my mom used to make for us when This is the recipe my mom used to make for us when we were kids. So so many happy memories coming in from playing in the snow & my mom having this hot chocolate warming on the stove top for us.🤍

It’s also a fan favorite over here after your mom forces you to go out into the frigid cold, drive out to your farm to decorate a Christmas tree in the woods with ornaments, & pose for pics. Watch my “Tree Pics” highlights for the full story. 🤪☕️

1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup water
4 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla

Mix dry ingredients in the sauce pan, add the water, bring to a boil, boil while stirring for 1 minute.

Add milk (we’ve used diary, almond, & oat milk before.) Heat to your liking. Add vanilla. Serve.
Love to you all this holiday season.🤍 I have h Love to you all this holiday season.🤍

I have had so much fun this year getting to know so many of you on this funny, little app. Thank you for being inspiring, for commenting, sharing, & talking with me in DMs. You really do make it so much fun over here!
It’s December 18. I’ve only bought 4 gifts. I It’s December 18. I’ve only bought 4 gifts. I didn’t take pictures for a Christmas card. I haven’t done Advent calendars, gingerbread houses, holiday baking, gone to look at lights, thought through gifts for the kids & other family members, etc. Our non-holiday life is extremely busy right now, so the very minimum for the holidays has been done.

The house is decorated, we’ve watched Christmas movies non-stop, & we’ve driven through lights at the square. And the kids told me today they’re having such a fun Christmas season. They haven’t even noticed how we haven’t done all the things.

So, if you haven’t had time to do all the holiday things like you typically do at this time of year, don’t stress. Your kids are still going to have a wonderful time & walk away with happy memories of this season.

Working on some simple gifts for them today, the weather in Arkansas is predicted to be crazy this week, if we get snowed in & can’t get to the family farm (where the kids receive most of their gifts for Christmas from extended family) then I better make sure we have stuff under the tree! 🎄🎄🎄

Wait in line: on the weekends they told me this particular exhibit is 35+ minutes. We went on a Monday morning so it was 0!

We went through it twice, there’s a path through the room on the glass floor with the paper lanterns throughout the room. My kids & I loved it!
True confession, there was a point in time a few y True confession, there was a point in time a few years ago where I was too scared to go to a local state park to hike their trails with the kids solo. Like terrified. But I decided the benefits of the hike outweighed allowing myself to allow fear to control my decisions.

I started small, in a local park, & built from there. I WENT FOR IT. I didn’t know anything about “leave no trace”, I didn’t know anything about the 10 essentials, I didn’t own anything but tennis shoes & workout clothes, & I really believed Ted Bundy’s psycho twin brother was just waiting in the woods to take me out. 😝

But what if I had let all that stop me?? I would have never climbed multiple 14ers, I would have never collected camping gear & camped in Yellowstone, I would have never visited all these magical places in Arkansas. Social media can make all of this look effortless or like all of us knows what we’re doing or if we screw up or don’t know something, then it’s not worth attempting.

Let’s normalize the learning process. Let’s give people grace for not knowing all the things when they’re starting out. Let’s not scream & yell at someone who doesn’t understand leave no trace, let’s gently educate (I’ve now taught lots of people about LNT when they go out with us.) Let’s make it ok to start from the beginning so people can get started & discover the natural world. Cause I promise, everything I do, you can do too.🤍
